Meet the Teacher

Mitzi Neely currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for WOISD. She is a former high school journalism teacher whose publications won state, regional and national awards, including, Texas ILPC Silver and Bronze Stars, Silver Crown from Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and Pacemaker from National Scholastic Press Association.

Neely advised high school yearbook and newspaper staffs for 20 years and this is her fourth year teaching Journalism for high school credit to eighth graders at White Oak Middle School. A new class at WOMS for Fall, 2020 is Pre-Journalism for sixth and seventh graders.

She has received the Edith Fox King Award from the Interscholastic League Press Conference (UIL) and has been a two-time finalist for the Max Haddick Teacher of the Year Award for Texas.
